Are you aware?
We do not have a solution to this major horrific issue with our culture. Recycling is not enough. We as a population can not even begin to understand the implications of this massive problem. It lies in our hands to make the giant shift in culture that would gradually improve the circumstances for people all around the world. The questions we ask ourselves and you; what is the difference between a need and a want? Why is our electronic waste being sold to people that it kills because they have no other way to handle it? Why can't our old computers be used to help develop poorer countries by providing them with access to better technology even if it is not the latest technology. And lastly can we allow this to be present in our world? Can you live on the way you do in our culture knowing that this reality exists?

Things That Irritate Me on Wednesdays
In the spirit of "keeping things real", we have decided to start a tradition of "Things I Hate Wednesdays". Let's face it, people are rarely tight lipped or short of things to say when it comes to dicussing what makes them mad. In fact, people are often known to share those things with complete strangers (herein creating a pet peeve in itself: when a complete stranger complains and rants to you). We'd like to make the ranting and raving a little less awkward.
Today's Agenda: Captain Obvious
Many things in life are self-explanitory, or just plain obvious. Unfortunately, there are those who seem to enjoy pointing these things out, as if they were freaking Colombus. Which, is actually a pretty accurate title for these kinds of people, considering that Colombus didn't "discover" anything.
Today's inspiration comes from a personal experience of one of the founders of this blog; Melissa. Melissa's a very fun, outgoing person, who practically radiates self-confidence. Yet, everyday, somebody feels the need to remind Melissa that she is incredibly skinny. As if, in all the years she's dressed herself, she never noticed the size 0 label on her jeans, or never owned a mirror.
At this point many of you are probably thinking: big deal, I would killllll for people to constantly tell me I'm skinny. Consider it from her perspective. Melissa already knows she's skinny, there are no misillusions or poor image issues. Anyone who knows her could tell you that. it's not a matter of being skinny or not, it's a matter of people constantly telling her something that she very clearly already knows. Imagine someone walking up to you and saying, in all sincerity, "Your eyes are SO blue". Imagine this scenario happening everyday, constantly. Though it may be good natured, it's hard to deny how irritating it would be.
If you would like to contribute a story or blurb about something that get's under your skin, send it to mmovements@gmail.com!

MinorMovements Mission Statment
MinorMovements is a site made by young people, for young people. The purpose of our blog is to create a community open to discussing topics of their own interest, in addition to sharing different forms of art, such as music, paintings, and poetry. Topics we suggest include: political issues, images in the media, and any other current event item that is relevant and interesting. We will begin posting blogs that focus on topics of our choice. We encourage everyone to send in suggestions for issues they would like to see addressed. Another big portion of this site will be sharing artwork, so please, don't hesitate to send in any art you'd like to share! We are very excited to make this happen, and would love for you to be a part of this experiment in youth culture.
